This thread is aimed to give you a an idea of what Futuro Anteriore (#FA from now on) is, what objectives we aim to, what are we factually doing to move towards those objectives.
Explaining #FA is not easy. It is as hard as for any other social network, with the addition of some concepts that are not easy to describe.Recently @noemi described it as a place where “creatives are factoring sustainability in their work”. That’s true as an exquisitely essential tweet; but there’s much we can add to that.
I would like this to be the first place, where we can discuss all the extra stuff which doesn’t fit in a tweet, nor in an introductionary post like this.To start with, here’s what we’re trying to do with this platform:
- explore the meaning and the feasibility of factually sustainable futures
- develop a platform able to support the making of collaborative, remote projects
- prove the value of new approches to cooperation, research and work in nowadays liquid society
- experiment with the communication potential of cinematography and visual effects, when applied to content of worth
If we were to describe the ideal output of the activities happening on this site, we would say:
- a set of interviews to the most diverse group of researchers, activists, common people; such interviews would cover everything related to sustainable development, and would be always discussed in a shrewd, interdisciplinary way. The whole of them, would clearly draw the picture of what human can do, what not, where they might be willing to go, where to stay away from.
- a variety of designs (products, architecture, urbanistics, engineering, software, service) produced by students in schools and universities. Their designs would be based on the knowledge (and vision) emerging from the above interviews.
- a short, fiction movie set in a future 50 years from now, where everything went in the best imaginable way, and the world has become a better, fully sustainable place. The story, would play with the constrast between utopia and distopia, to trigger emotions and true insights about that futre world.
- to achieve the above, the project would have acquired/produced all of the documentation, tools, software, know-how required to actualize such a project; everything would be shared publicly and open source, for everybody to use it in their own projects
But in the real world the ideal is hard to reach. Therefore, what we realistically try to do here is to consciously choose to play the game, anyway.
In the assumption that the above can be actually achieved (with a lot of work and the right dose of luck), we try do it.
We’re aware that we might fail; but we’re sure that in the process we’ll learn a lot on how you can (and cannot) get there. And that has a value. If for any reason you bumped here, read this and found that this makes sense to you, let us know what you think.
We’re keen to hea from you.- This topic was modified 8 years, 11 months ago by Stefano Cieri.
